REACT TASK FORCE CRACKS IDENTITY THEFT

REDWOOD CITY, CA. Monday, February 10, 2003 - On February 3, 2003 REACT investigators arrested three men in connection with an identity theft and stolen property case involving victims from California, Washington and Delaware. The three subjects were arrested in the parking lot of a mail delivery distribution facility in South San Francisco as they attempted to pick up a package using false identification. The merchandise had been ordered online in the name of the victim who lives in Washington State. An analysis of a seized computer taken from Deveaux's residence during a routine probation search revealed numerous online purchases in multiple names. Cellular phones, electronic equipment, musical instruments, computers and software, cameras and clothing had been purchased and shipped to Deveaux's home. Escoffier Deveaux, 24 years old and a San Bruno resident, and Shawn Gementera, 26, of San Francisco, were booked into County Jail for probation violation. Gementera was on probation out of San Mateo County for auto theft conviction, and Deveaux was on probation out of San Mateo County for an identity theft conviction. The third subject is a 17-year old juvenile from San Bruno who was booked into Hillcrest Juvenile Hall for possession of stolen property and identity theft. |
