SOUTH BAY COMPANY.
POSTED: June 13, 2006
FREMONT, Calif. -- Santa Clara County prosecutors announced Tuesday that authorities have seized more than $2 million worth of DVD recorders from a Fremont company as part of an ongoing investigation into illegal manufacturing. On June 8, federal agents seized 20,000 DVD recorders, worth more than $2 million, from Cyberhome. Cyberhome is considered to be the largest manufacturer of DVD recorders. A high-technology task force called Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team or REACT, said Cyberhome was operating illegally. Authorities received a tip from Phillips Electronics who revoked their contract with Cyberhome in March. "There's no indication that the retailers had any indication that the devices had counterfeit Phillips trademarks. In fact, the retailers went to some lengths to ensure the trademarks were genuine," said Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney James Sibley. Prosecutors said Cyberhome did not pay licensing fees are required by law. No arrests have been made, and the case is under investigation. |
